
Softball Hosts FDU Saturday

Setting the Scene... The Pioneers return home for the first time in two weeks as they host FDU in an NEC doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 pm. SHU split a pair of games with St. John's Wednesday, winning 2-1 in the first game before dropping the nightcap 2-0. In league play last weekend, SHU took a pair of games from Mount St. Mary's. The Pioneers are currently 9-19 overall and 3-5 in the NEC.
Pioneers Split St. John's... Freshman Adrian Fitzsimon hit a two run homerun and junior Megan Spehar tossed a complete game four hitter to lead Sacred Heart to a 2-1 win over St. John's in the first game of a softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers made three errors in the second game which led to two unearned runs as the Red Storm earned a split with a 2-0 victoy in the nightcap.
Pioneers Sweep Mount... Bethany Lemenager and Megan Spehar combined to strikeout 15 Mount St. Mary's players and allow just one run to lead Sacred Heart to a doublehader sweep of Mount St. Mary's at the MSM Softball Field on Saturday afternoon. Sacred Heart took the opener, 2-1 in eight innings, before capturing the second game, 2-0.
Last Year vs FDU... Jacqui Riley and Ashley McDonough each hit homeruns and Chrissy DeMott tossed a shutout to power Sacred Heart to a 9-0 win in the nightcap and a doubleheader split with Fairleigh Dickinson in softball action Thursday.
Scouting The Knights... Senior Dana Meyers is the leading hitter for the Knights is the season's first half, posting a .380 average. Freshman Lindsay Glidden has a team leading 16 RBI and three home runs along with the second best average on the team, a .309 mark. In the circle, Ashley Buchanan is the Knights' ace, with a 2.89 ERA, with three wins in 18 games.

Up Next... The Pioneers host Iona Tuesday in non-league action and then travel to Stony Brook Thursday. Next weekend, SHU welcomes Central Connecticut and Quinnipiac to Fairfield in their final home weekend of the season.
