
Women's Volleyball Wins First Match of Season

PROVIDENCE, RI - Freshman Mydori Saipale (Oxnard, CA) recorded a game-high 12 kills and 11 digs to lead the Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Coppin State in the first round of the Friar Classic at Providence College Friday afternoon.
The Pioneers won the first game easily, 30-13, thanks to five kills from Saipale. Freshman Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek (Santa Barbara, CA), who finished the match with 38 assists, had eight in the win.
SHU won the second game 30-21 behind six kills from senior Christine Duffy (Massapequa, NY). The Pioneers made just five attack errors in the game.
Game three of the match went into overtime before the Pioneers finally prevailed, 34-32. Kidd-Kadlubek made 16 assists and had a team-high six digs to lead the way.
Sophomore Alex Bavasi (Flagstaff, AZ) have a very strong match, hitting .400 with ten kills, three solo blocks and three block assists.
The Pioneers will play their second match of the tournament tomorrow morning at 10 am against St. Francis (NY), and then take on Providence College at 5 PM.
