BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (January 12, 2008) - Sacred Heart freshman Taryn Lapierre (Burrillville, RI) scored a pair of goals with two assists to lead the Pioneers to their fourth-straight win, 6-1, over Nichols College at the Wonderland of Ice Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Pioneers to 9-10-1 on the year.
Freshman Kristina Hankins (Lexington, MA) got the scoring started just 32 seconds into play off a feed from sophomore Brittany Rosselle (Pawling, NY). SHU kept their offensive going, pulling front 3-0 after Lapierre posted back to back goals at 6:35 and 14:23.
The Bison notched their lone goal of the at 16:25 as Cheri Winter scored with assists credited to Casey Souza and Candice Ellis, cutting the lead to 3-1 at the end of the period. The Pioneers dominated on offense, out shooting Nichols 23-7 over the first 20 minutes of play.
The Pioneers tacked on two more in the second period as junior Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) and sophomore Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON), both assisted by Lapierre. Freshman Christina Cahill (Andover, MA) played the first two periods in goal, making 18 saves in picking up the win.
SHU notched their last goal of the afternoon on a senior Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA) break-away with 11:17 to go. Freshman Ariss Lyons (Westford, MA) played the final period between the pipes, making eight saves.
The Pioneers finished the afternoon out shooting Nichols 60-27 and were one of three on the power play. Sacred Heat will return to the ice next Friday night at Union.
