South Bend, IN - Senior captain Erik Condra had a goal and an assist and goaltender Jordan Pearce made 18 saves as #8 Notre Dame shut-out Sacred Heart, 3-0, in men's ice hockey action Friday night the Joyce Center.
Notre Dame dominated the offensive zone play for much of the game, out-shooting the Pioneers 42-18. Drew was outstanding in goal for the Pioneers, making 39 saves to keep Sacred Heart in the game.
Condra opened the scoring for the Irish with 4:51 left in the first period. Condra got loose in the slot and one-timed a pass from Ryan Thang from the hashmarks past Pioneer goaltender Stefan Drew for a 1-0 Notre Dame lead.
Kyle Lawson scored a shorthanded goal in the final minute of the first period to make it 2-0 Irish. Kevin Deeth sent a pass up ice and Lawson out raced the Pioneer defender and slid the puck around Drew to give Notre Dame a two goal lead after the first period.
The Pioneers were able to generate a handful of scoring opportunities but could not get a puck past Pearce. The final two periods were played to a standstill until Christian Hanson put the game away for the Irish with an empty net goal with 17 seconds left.
