
Maine Gets Revenge, Defeats SHU 11-1

Fairfield, CT - Sacred Heart earned the respect of the Maine Black Bears after a scintillating 3-2 win last night. The Black Bears came back strong Saturday afternoon downing the Pioneers 11-1. Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI) netted the only Pioneer goal early in the second period.
The Pioneers (1-2-0) were outshot 57-14 and freshman Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, MN) tallied 46 saves in a losing effort. Nine different players scored goals for Maine (2-4-0) while Jennie Gallo earned a hat trick for the home team.
The Pioneers special teams, which had improved since the season opener, again haunted Sacred Heart. The Black Bears earn four power play goals on seven opportunities while SHU went 0-5 on the woman advantage.
The weekend was still a success for the women's hockey program, notching its first win over the University of Maine. The Pioneers continue their road trip traveling to Kingston, RI as they take on the University of Rhode Island. The puck will drop Saturday October 25th at 7:00 pm.
