
Women's Hockey Swept in Syracuse

Fairfield, CT- Syracuse won its first two home games in school history against the Pioneers this weekend. The Orange used three short-handed goals to down the Pioneers on Friday night 10-0. Sacred Heart got goals from Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON), Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA), and Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) on Saturday afternoon but still fell 7-3.
Syracuse (3-5-0) dominated the series opener from start to finish as they scored six goals in the opening stanza. The second period was a preverbal stalemate as neither team could find the back of the net. Sacred Heart (1-4-0) had eight power play opportunities but did not score a point. The Orange finished strong however, netting four goals in the final frame. Julie Rising led the Orange attack with two goals and two assists totaling four points.
The Pioneers were shut out in the first period of game two as Syracuse stormed out to a 4-0 lead. Sacred Heart was finally able to gain its bearing in the final two periods as the capitalized on two power play opportunities. Syracuse used their big early lead to get all three of their goaltenders into the game. Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) added two assists for the Pioneers and was their leading scorer.
Syracuse outshot the Pioneers 90-43 in two games, SHU has yet to outshoot an opponent in an NCAA game this season. The Pioneers will take on Salve Regina next weekend on Friday November 7th in Newport, Rhode Island, game time is set for 7:00 pm.
