Russell Tabbed NEC Pitcher of the Week

Fairfield, CT - Freshman Jen Russell (Seymour, CT) has been named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 24-30. This is the first league award for Russell in her career.
Russell went 2-0 in NEC play over the weekend to help SHU to a 3-1 start in the league. On Saturday she allowed just five hits in a complete game shutout of The Mount, while striking out a career high 10 batters. She retired 11 straight hitters at one point to help the Pioneers complete a sweep of Mount. Sunday she helped the Pioneers salvage a doubleheader split with Monmouth by allowing just one run and scattering six hits while striking out five in another complete game victory.
The Pioneers will host Fairfield on Tuesday at 3:30 pm and face Hartford in a doubleheader at 3:00 pm Wednesday.
