Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) and Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) each had two goals as eight different Pioneers scored in Sacred Heart's 10-6 win over Neumann College. Sacred Heart scored seven goals in the second period as the Pioneers completed the series sweep Saturday night. Arnone has scored a goal in seven straight games and moved past Angela Yuhas for second place on SHU's all time points list.
Sacred Heart (8-10-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play goal from Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI). Caitlin Gottwald (Reading, MA) extended the lead two minutes later with an assist from LaPierre. Neumann (6-7-0) closed the gap to 2-1 before the first intermission with a marker from Jasper Thomson.
The second period was a frenzy of scoring as the teams netted a combined 12 goals. Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) lit the lamp just 58 seconds into the second stanza. Starting at the 17:40 mark Neumann poured in three goals in the span of 1:24 seconds to take the lead 4-3. Four minutes later the Pioneers scored two quick goals, 23 seconds apart, to regain a one goal advantage. It was then Dunlop and Arnone's turn to score, bringing the game to 7-4 SHU.
The Knights stormed back at the end of the period and notched tallies from Carly Fitzsimmons and Nicole Alexopoulos. Dunlop's second goal of the game and Lauren Fontaine's (Windsor, ON) marker finally rounded out the scoring of the second period with the Pioneers ahead 9-6. The third period saw significantly less action as Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) scored the frames only goal to bring the final tally to 10-6.
Sacred Heart finishes its four game road trip 3-0-1 and is now 4-1-2 in their last seven contests. The Pioneers return home to take on Bowdoin Tuesday night before returning to the road for a series with Oswego. The puck is scheduled to drop Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, CT.
