
Pioneers Lose 6-3, Split Weekend Series at Potsdam

POTSDAM, NY (November 14, 2009) – The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to SUNY Potsdam, 6-3, Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers split the weekend series with the Bears as they drop to 1-7 overall, while Potsdam improved to 3-2 on the season.
Junior forward Amanda King and sophomore forward Stephanie Simons put the Bears ahead early with a first period goal each. Sophomore defender Breanna Roy contributed a pair of goals to the Potsdam offense.
Senior Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON/Clearview Ice Stars) netted her second goal of the season in the first period for SHU. Junior Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON/Catholic Central) scored her second goal of the weekend as sophomore Jennifer Burroughs Raleigh, NC/Carolina Jr. Hurricanes) also lit the lamp. Junior Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN/Edina) added two assists for the Red & White.
In between the pipes for the Bears, freshman Jen Conophy and senior Hilary Hitchman combined for 45 saves and the win. Sophomore Raelene Sydor (St. Albert, AB/St. Albert-Kal-Tire Slash) stopped 21 shots and allowed five goals for the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart outshot Potsdam 48-27 for the game.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday for the home opener against Holy Cross at 7:00 pm.
