New Haven, CT- Becky Brown led Yale with three goals and an assist as the Bulldogs defeated Sacred Heart 7-0 Thursday night. Head coach Kim Banner was forced to play senior Mary Dick (Massapequa, NY), a midfielder and defender, in goal because of a suspension being served by starting keeper Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY). Dick made two saves but Yale outshot the Pioneers 14-5 and earned eight corner kicks.
Yale (3-0-0) scored eight minutes into the game as Leslie Perez put in a cross from Brown to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage. Brown owned the rest of the first half scoring three goals and notching a natural hat trick in the next 35 minutes to give Yale a 4-0 lead at the half.
Sacred Heart (2-3-0) tallied each of their two shots on goal in the second half, both coming from senior captain Ashley Testani (Monroe, CT). Yale goalies Ayana Sumiyasu and Adelaide Gay combined for the clensheet while Gay made two saves.
The Pioneers will return to action at full strength this Sunday as they welcome Maine to Campus Field. Game time is set for 11:00 am.
