Box Score Pioneer Vision Post Game Report - Samantha Kee and Amanda
Stiles (Video)
The Pioneer women's soccer team scored twice on corner kicks en
route to a 3-2 victory over Binghamton Sunday afternoon at Campus
Field. Samantha
Kee (Haskell, NJ) notched her third and fourth goals of 2010
while Heather
Quevillion (Dayville, CT) put in the other SHU marker.
Sacred Heart outshot the Bearcats 14-4 overall and have won
three of the first four games this season.
Sacred Heart (3-1-0) opened the scoring line early as Kee
slotted home the icebreaker 2:49 into the contest.
Junior Amanda
Stiles (Miller Place, NY) earned the assist after sliding a
cross over from the top of the 18 yard box to Kee, who put the ball
into the left side of the net.
Binghamton (0-2-0) evened the tally at the 24:52 mark when Kerry
Sullivan headed in a cross from Sarah Furminger. The Pioneers
responded just 2:12 later as Kee struck for her second goal of the
match. Freshman Alyssa
Brandofino (East Northport, NY) swung in a corner kick that Kee
headed home to push SHU back in front 2-1. That would be the
score going into the locker room as neither team would be able to
generate any more offense.
SHU freshman Lucy
Gildein (Topsfield, MA) put two shots on goal early in the
second half but both efforts were stopped by Bearcat netminder
Carrie Martin. Kee made a bid for the hat trick 10 minutes
into the second stanza but Martin made a diving save on the hard
long range shot. The Pioneers would make it a 3-1 affair
shortly later on another goal from set pieces. Quevillion
volleyed home a corner kick put into the box by Leigh
Dogmanits (Walnutport, PA) with 27:20 on the clock, moving the
score to 3-1.
The Bearcats closed the gap to 3-2 with 19 minutes remaining in
regulation, capitalizing on an error by the Sacred Heart
defense. Binghamton forward Kaitlyn Cook picked up her first
goal of the year after slipping behind the SHU back line. The
Pioneers came within inches of pushing the lead back to two goals
as Dogmanits stung a header towards the right post. The
Bearcat keeper dove full extension to slap the ball wide and keep
her team within striking distance.
Binghamton had the better scoring opportunites down the stretch
but would be unable to find an equalizer. Stefani Knopick put
a dangerous ball across the face of the goal at the 3:35 mark but
no one would be able to direct it in. Just 30 seconds later
Candace Howard found herself alone in the penalty box but lifted
her shot over the bar. SHU defended well the rest of the way
down the stretch to pick up the 3-2 victory and complete a perfect
2-0-0 weekend at Campus Field.
The women's soccer team takes to the road next weekend for the
first road game of 2010. Sacred Heart travels to Orono, ME to
take on another America East opponent in Maine.
