Cosmedy's Two Goals Lift Pioneers Over Bulldogs

Fairfield, Conn.—Rookie Dana Cosmedy (Monroe, Conn.) knocked in two goals within a two-minute span early in the game to secure the Pioneers' win Friday night. The Sacred Heart Women's Soccer team clinched their sixth season win with the 2-1 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs and improve to 6-7-1 on the season and 3-2-1 against Northeast Conference opponents.
Just 11 minutes into the game, Cosmedy sprinted up the field with the ball and took a shot, barely missing hitting the cross bar. The ball quickly ricocheted right back at her and she headed it just over the head of Bryant goalkeeper Lauren Viverito.
The Bulldogs got the ball back after the goal, but Jillian Picinich stole it back and pushed it up to midfield, bringing into Bryant territory. A series of Pioneer passes got the ball all the way up to the box where members of both teams scrambled to get possession. Once again, Cosmedy found the net. In the thirteenth minute of the game, the freshman pushed the ball in for the game-winner.
A change in goal for Bryant gave the Bulldogs' defense an energy boost as they held the Pioneers to those two goals for the rest of the game, giving their offense a chance to score.
In the fifty-sixth minute of the game, the Bulldogs' Shana Follette knocked the ball out of a scuffle in the box and into the goal for Bryant's only goal of the game.
Sacred Heart is back in action Sunday on Campus Field when they take on LIU Brooklyn at 3:00 p.m.
