Pioneers Lose 4-3 to Hofstra

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team lost a tough 4-3 battle with the Hofstra Pride on Saturday at Yale University.  The Pride's Jason Sinkoff won a three-set victory over John Lopresti (Syosset, NY) to break a 3-3 tie and give Hofstra the win.  SHU evens their record at 3-3 on the year.

The Pride won the double point thanks to a 9-8 (9-7) win at #2 by Matthew Gemmell and Antonio Pena over Luka Bagi (Branford, CT) and Logan Mohring (Naples, FL).  The two teams split the other two doubles matches with Lopresti and Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) posting an 8-5 win over Ryhaan Gill and Laurent Octobre at #3.

In singles, SHU got three wins led by senior Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) at #1 over Pena, 6-4 and 6-1.  Pagan beat Adrien Bailly at #3, 6-2 and 6-1 and Bagi won at #6 over Gill, 6-2 and 6-4.

Sinkoff clinched the Pride win at #5, beating Lopresit 6-1 and 6-4 after dropping the first set 7-6 (9-7).

The Pioneers will be at Fordham on Sunday afternoon for a 2:00 pm match.
