Field Hockey Beats Harvard on Bergman's Double OT Goal
9/3/2012 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey
(Cambridge, MA) – Liz Bergman (Blandon, PA) scored with about a minute left in double overtime against Harvard, lifting the Sacred Heart Field Hockey team to a second come-from-behind 2-1 win in as many days.
A day after Bergman scored the game-winning goal against Holy Cross, she did it again in dramatic fashion, driving a shot from the top of the circle inside the right post off a pass from Lindsay Kasten (Fair Haven, NJ) off a penalty corner to end the game at 98:43.
Kasten tied the game with about five minutes left, following her own initial shot on goal to knock in the rebound at 64:51. Harvard took the first lead of the game in the second half on a goal by Caroline McNeill assisted by Caitlin Rea at 41:01.
The Pioneers dominated the shot totals, outshooting the Crimson 30-8, including a total of 17-3 in shots on goal. Mary Altepeter (Chesterfield, MO) made two saves in net for SHU, while Jenn Hatfield took the tough-luck loss after making 15 saves.
SHU will take a 3-1 record into their next game on September 14 when the Pioneers host UC Davis at 4:00 pm.
