Bridgeport, CT – The Sacred Heart men's hockey dropped their tenth straight Saturday night, falling to Canisius, 6-3. The Pioneers fall to 0-19-2 on the season, while the Golden Griffs improve to 8-9-5.

The Pioneers started the game off strong, scoring the first goal of the game for the second straight game. Sophomore forward Brian Sheehan (St. Louis, MO) found the back of the net to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead at 3:46 of the first period. Sheehan was assisted by sophomore Chad Barthelmess (Norristown, PA) and senior captain Eric Delong (Oakville, MB). Canisius would even the score late in the first period with a power play goal by freshman Chris Rumble, his second of the season.

The Golden Griffins would add to their lead just a minute into the second period. Sophomore Tyler Wiseman scored his fourth goal of the season to give Canisius the 2-1 lead. He was assisted by Mitch McCrank and Ben Danford. Junior Kyle Gibbons would add his first of two goals in the game later in the second period to take Canisius into the final frame up 3-1.

The third period certainly brought in a lot of excitement, with a combined four goals scored and nine penalties called, the final stanza did not disappoint.  A power play goal by Preston Shupe led things off for the Golden Griffins. Shupe was assisted by Ryan Bohrer and Ralph Cuddemi. Barthelmess would strike back for the Pioneers with his second point of the game, a goal at 4:11 of the third, assisted by Sheehan and freshman Jacob Brightbill (Anneville, PA). Gibbons would add his second goal of the game, this one on a 5 on 3 advantage for the Golden Griffs, to give Canisius the 5-2 lead midway through the third. SHU would cut the deficit to 5-3 with a goal by junior forward Chad Filteau (Regina, SK), assisted by sophomore Drew George. Canisius would then add an empty netter with just 13 seconds left to make the final score 6-3.

The Pioneers face Air Force right back at home this coming weekend, the 19th and 20th.
