Sacred Heart Buried by Colgate, 9-0

Box Score

Hamilton, NY – The Colgate Raiders (11-7-2) got an early goal from Sophomore Joe Wilson Saturday night and never looked back, burying Sacred Heart (0-17-2) by a score of 9-0.

The Raiders didn't take long to take a 1-0 lead on the Pioneers, scoring just 17 seconds into the game. Joe Wilson scored the opening goal for the Raiders; assist was credited Kurtis Bartliff. Colgate extended the lead to two goals just 8 minutes later on a puck that barely slipped behind senior goaltender Steven Legatto (Kelowna, BC). The shot taken from behind the net appeared to hit Legatto in the back. Sophomore Daniel Gentzler recorded the unconventional goal, helped out by Ryan Johnston and freshman Mike Borkowski. Colgate controlled most of the action in the first, outshooting SHU 19-5.

The Second period started out much like the first with Colgate rapidly finding the back of the net, this time just 36 seconds into the second frame. A turnover led to Bartliff easily slipping the puck behind freshman goaltender Fredrik Melander (Upsala, Sweden). Bartliff was assisted by Bourdon, his second assist of the game. Just one minute later freshman Tyson Spink found the back of the net making the score 4-0. Spink was assisted by John Lidgett and Nathan Sinz. At 6:40 of the second freshman Kyle Baun scored the fifth goal of the game for the Raiders, assisted by freshman twins Tyson and Tylor Spink. Gentzler scored his second goal of the game at 10:08 of the second, helped out by senior Billy Rivellini and freshman Tylor Spink. The fifth and final goal for Colgate in the second period came again from freshman Baun, assisted by senior Jeremy Price sophomore Brendan Corcoran.

Colgate scored their eighth goal of the game at 8:19 of the third period, an unassisted power play goal by Bourdon. The Raiders found their ninth and final goal of the game at 15:49 of the final frame, a top shelf blast by Lidgett. He was assisted by freshman Borkowski and freshman Johnston.

This was the largest amount of goals given up by the Pioneers this season and only the second time the Pioneers were shutout this season. All three of Sacred Heart's goalies made an appearance.

The Pioneers return home next weekend for a two game series against Canisius. The series kicks off Friday night at 7:00 PM at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
