Pioneers Nab First NEC Win, 2-0 Over CCSU

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 11, 2013) - Sacred Heart sophomore Alexis Parlato (Center Moniches, NY) posted both goals to lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 victory over Central Connecticut State Friday night in Northeast Conference play on Campus Field. The Pioneers end a four-game losing skid and pick-up their first NEC win of the season.
The Pioneers (4-9-0, 1-2-0 NEC) got their first goal in the 28th minute as Parlato finshed off a pass from junior Kristin Verrette (Saugus, MA). Verrette took a pass in the middle of the feed and sent a pass to Parlato wide left. The sophomore blasted her shot to the top right corner, beating CCSU keeper Nikola Deiter for a 1-0 lead.
The duo struck again in the 71st minute to provide SHU a 2-0 lead. Verrette delivered a lead pass to Parlato who beat her defender and the the goalie to the right corner.
The Blue Devils (3-8-0, 1-1-0 NEC) had a pair of point blank chances in the second half to get on the scoreboard but SHU keeper Sydney Judkins (South Park, PA) was up to the task both times. CCSU's Tori Sousa blasted a shot that Judkins turned away in the 53rd minute. She then collected a loosed ball at the far post and try to beat Judkins to the near side but the senior goalkeeper denied her in the 55th minute.
The Pioneers are back in NEC action next Friday night, October 18th when the battle Mount St. Mary's at home on Campus Field.
