STONY BROOK, N.Y. (November 5, 2013)—Allison Riggs led all players hitting .500 Tuesday night as the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team was swept by Stony Brook in their last non-conference match of the season. Stony Brook was back in business scoring nine of the next 11 points for a 20-13 lead. Stony Brook eventually took a two-set lead with the 25-19 win. Riggs and Marie Zimmerman (Denver, Colo.) led the set with four kills each. Riggs posted and errorless .500 set with four kills on eight attempts.
After being behind for the beginning of the set, the Pioneers staged a comeback and on Zimmerman's four-point service run tied the score at nine with a kill from sophomore Karly Shockey (Chino Hills, Calif.). Sacred Heart claimed its first lead two points later on a service ace from Young. The teams went back and forth exchanging points and the lead until Kathy Flethcer's four-point service run gave the Seawolves a 19-16 lead. Stony Brook extended the lead with Laura Hathaway's five-point run and took the set 25-20. Mercado led the final set of the night with five kills.
