Sacred Heart Tops Mount St. Mary's, 6-2; Sweeps Doubleheader

Box Score

Emmitsburg, MD – The Sacred Heart Pioneers won game two of their Friday doubleheader, 6-2, over Mount St. Mary's to complete the two game sweep at Straw Family Stadium.  Sacred Heart has now won seven straight games andimprove to 27-21 overall this season and 22-9 in the Northeast Conference.

Sacred Heart lefty Jeff Stoddard (Branford, CT) tossed his seventh complete game of the season to improve to 7-2 on the season. Stoddard allowed just two solo homers in seven innings and struck out four Mountaineers.

Sacred Heart opened up the scoring in the second inning, staking Stoddard the 2-0 lead. Junior Dan Perez (Seymour, CT) led off the second with a base hit through the left side. Freshman Jesus Medina (New York, NY) followed Perez with a bunt single to put two on with no outs. Following a fielder's choice by sophomore Keaton Flint (Charlton, NY), freshman Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY) knocked in the Pioneers' first run with a double down the right field line to score Medina.  Flint would come around to score Sacred Heart's second run on a RBI ground out by catcher Derick Horn (Valatie, NY).

SHU extended their lead to 3-0 in the third with senior shortstop John Murphy (Seymour, CT) scoring on an RBI ground out by Flint. Murphy reached base on an error and advanced all the way to third on a Perez base hit and then another Mountaineer error.

The Mount cut into Sacred Heart's lead in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Brandon Scott.

The Pioneers added a couple more in the sixth on a Dave Boisture (Highland Mills, NY) base hit to score Horn, who led off the inning with a single to right field. Jonathan Servilla came around to score the Pioneers' fifth run on a wild pitch. The Mountaineers were attempting to intentionally walk Murphy but an errant throw by Vincent Molesky allowed Servilla to dart in from third base. Servilla bunted for a hit to reach.

Another solo home run for Mount St. Mary's cut the score to 5-2, this time by junior Nick Walker in the sixth inning.

Sacred Heart added another run in the 7th on a double to left center by Horn, to score Flint.

Sacred Heart looks for the four game sweep of Mount St. Mary's tomorrow at noon.
