FAIRFIELD, CONN. (October 26, 2014)—Sophomore Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) tallied a match-leading 23 kills hitting .439 in the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team's 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-10, 25-15) loss to Robert Morris Sunday afternoon in the William H. Pitt Center. The Pioneers fall to 7-15 on the season and 2-7 in Northeast Conference play.
Errors plagued the Pioneers throughout the match, but after dropping the first set, SHU rallied from behind to win their only set of the match. Down 10-7, Sacred Heart worked its way back into the set with a kill from Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.), who totaled 16 kills in the match, tying the score at 12 sending Marie Zimmerman (Denver, Colo.) back to serve. Behind the sophomore's strong serving, Kemper and Katie Direnzo (Shelton, Conn.) sent down three straight kills boosting the Pioneers to a 14-12 lead. The teams continued to be neck-and-neck trading the lead several times before another Kemper kill gave the Pioneers their final lead 23-22. The Colonials managed one more point, but a kill from Krufka ended the set in favor of Sacred Heart.
After spending next Saturday on the road against St. Francis Brooklyn, the Pioneers return home on Sunday to face the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds at 1:00 p.m.
