BROOKLYN, N.Y. (October 5, 2014)—Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led the match with 13 kills as the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team fell to reigning Northeast Conference champion LIU Brooklyn in four sets Saturday afternoon. Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) recorded her second double-double of the weekend with 11 kills and 10 digs as the Pioneers fall to 6-10 on the season and 1-3 in NEC play.

SHU came out strong in the first set taking the opening points, but the Blackbirds came back to tie the game at three and took the lead on the next point. Down 14-11, Krufka set down a kill that ignited a 6-1 Pioneer run that put SHU back on top. The teams exchanged points and the lead before Sacred Heart went up 22-19 on Kemper's strong serving. LIU managed one more point before junior Katie Direnzo (Shelton, Conn.) sealed the 25-20 win with a kill.

The momentum changed in the second set as the Blackbirds capitalized on SHU errors to take the set 25-12. Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) hit a set-leading five kills while hitting .333 in the third set. The Pioneers kept pace with LIU, but couldn't quite manage a lead before falling 25-21.

Sacred Heart took a big 6-2 lead to start the fourth set thanks to Marie Zimmerman's (Denver, Colo.) six-point service run, which featured three kills from Krufka. The lead didn't last for long as LIU worked their way back into the game and sprinted towards the win with a 14-2 run to clinch the match with the 25-13 set win.

SHU returns home Tuesday night for a midweek, non-conference matchup with Stony Brook at 7:00 p.m.
