FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 3, 2014)—Hannah Kimmel led the Sacred Heart women's basketball team to a 76-66 victory over the University of Vermont Wednesday night with a career-high 29 points. The Pioneers improve to 4-1 on the season with the win, while the Catamounts fall to 0-7.
The red shirt-junior shot a career-best 76.9% (10-13) from the field as SHU put on one of its strongest offensive performances of the season shooting 48.1% collectively from the floor.
The Pioneers opened the game 6-for-6. Back-to-back baskets from Alissa Tarsi and Kimmel to open the game gave SHU the only lead it would need as UVM only scored one basket in the first five minutes of the game.
Sacred Heart took an 11-point lead, 28-17, with 8:21 remaining in the first half with an Adaysha Williams layup, but the Catamounts worked their way back into the game to cut the Pioneers' lead to six at halftime, 39-33.
SHU continued to increase its lead throughout the second half. With the clock running down, Kimmel landed one of two from the line giving the Pioneers their largest lead of the game, 76-64.
Junior Lerae Ettienne tied her career-best 12 points as she flirted with a double-double pulling down six rebounds. Sydney Smith led the Catamounts with 20 points.
Sacred Heart travels to Brown this weekend for the Brown Classic. On Saturday, the Pioneers will play the host Bears before facing off against Drexel or St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
