The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-5 decision to visiting Yale University in its home opener Wednesday afternoon on Campus Field.  The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2 on the season and with the win the Bulldogs improve to 2-0.

Shelby Vaccaro (Brightwaters, N.Y.) paced the Pioneers with two goals and an assist, while three others all netted goals.  Demi Lopez (Wading River, N.Y.) had three caused turnovers for the Pioneers while Caitlin Delaney (Cherry Hill, N.J.) added two draw controls and a goal. 

Yale jumped out of the gate with two goals in the first 70 seconds and built a 9-0 leads with 6:38 to play before intermission.  Delaney put the Pioneers on the board with an unassisted tally with 3:31 to play in the half and the game went to break with the Bulldogs leading 9-1.

Sacred Heart scored first in the second-half as Vaccaro netted her first 1:09 into the period, and then after a Nicole Daniggelis tally at the 27:50 mark put Yale back up eight, 10-2, The Pioneers strung together three consecutive goals.  Jacqueline Zlevor (Medfield, Mass.) started the run with an unassisted goal at the 21:20 mark, which was followed 78 seconds later by a goal from Jesslyn Joseph (Bolton, Mass.). Vaccaro's free position tally with 19:20 to play in regulation made the score 10-5 and forced a Yale timeout.  The Bulldogs did not allow another goal the rest of the way, closing out the game with a 6-0 run.

Daniggelis finished with eight points, scoring six times, to go along with 14 draw controls for Yale.  Jen DeVito had six points in the win, with four assists.

Sacred Heart is back in action on March 5 with a game versus Holy Cross in Deland, Fla. Game time, at Stetson University, is set for 1 p.m.
