Pioneer Drop Two Games to Wagner

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 18, 2014)—The Sacred Heart softball team dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader to Wagner. After falling 2-1 in game one, the Seahawks' Samantha Bedker pitched a complete game shutout downing the Pioneers 4-0. The pair of losses drops SHU to 12-19 this season and 1-9 in Northeast Conference play.

Going into the bottom of the seventh with the game tied at one, Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) got the loss in game one after walking Aerika High and two batters later giving up the walk-off double to Brianna Tredway. The rookie allowed seven hits while striking out four batters over 6.2 innings of work.

Bedker took the circle for the Seahawks again in game two and held the Pioneers hitless through five innings before Kate Nadler (Southbury, Conn.) led off the sixth inning with a single to left field. A walk for McKenna Weigand (Gilbert, Ariz.) moved Nadler into scoring position for Sacred Heart's only chance of the game. But the next two batters recorded outs halting the Pioneer offense.

Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) got the start in the second game. Pitching a complete game, the junior gave up two earned runs and struck out one batter and allowed no walks.

Sacred Heart returns home tomorrow to host the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson in a doubleheader beginning at noon at Pioneer Park.
