Pioneers Blanked by Fairfield Stags 3-0

Box Score

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 9, 2014)—The Sacred Heart softball team was shutout by crosstown rival Fairfield University 3-0 Wednesday evening. Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) took the loss as the Pioneers fall to 9-14 on the season.

Wentworth gave up all three runs, just two were earned, on five hits, over four innings of work. The junior managed to strike out two batters before being relieved by senior Taylor Lane (Lisbon, Conn.) but the damage had already been done.

Sacred Heart couldn't seem to get their bats going getting just four hits off of Stags pitching. Those hits combined with four walks left the Pioneers plenty of opportunity to score, but they couldn't knock anyone in and left 10 runners on base throughout the game.

Tomorrow, the Pioneers host Quinnipiac for one game at Pioneer Park before resuming Northeast Conference play this when the Bryant Bulldogs and Robert Morris Colonials come to town Saturday and Sunday respectively.
