FULLERTON, CALIF. (August 29, 2014)—Sarah Krufka (Santa Margarita, Calif.) led all players with 17 kills as the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team was swept by Texas Tech (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) in the 2014 season-opener. The reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year hit .308 in the first game of the Titan Classic at UC Fullerton Friday night.
While the Pioneers registered 36 kills to the Lady Raiders' 32, Texas Tech capitalized on 46 SHU errors and never allowed SHU to take the lead throughout the match.
Tonight marked career firsts for four Pioneers. Marie Zimmerman (Denver, Colo.) made her first start as Sacred Heart's setter recording a career-high 31 assists, while Tori Kemper (Banks, Ore.) made her SHU debut after being sidelined last year. Both members of the class of 2018 made their collegiate debuts tonight. Makayla Dole (Cypress, Calif.) tallied four kills in the match, while classmate Lila Palmer (Cypress, Texas) collected six digs.
Sacred Heart closes out the Titan Classic tomorrow when they face off against host-school Fullerton at 3:30 p.m. EST (12:30 p.m. PST) and Bucknell at 7:00 p.m. EST (4:00 p.m. PST).
