Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Despite a match-high 15 kills from Sarah Krufka, the Sacred Heart volleyball team could not overcome the efficient hitting of Stony Brook, as the Pioneers were swept for just the second time all season on Tuesday night at Prtichard Gymnasium. Its second loss in its last three matches, SHU is now 12-8 on the season.
Sacred Heart had an opportunity to extend the match, tying the third set for a 17th team with two straight points to make it 23-23. There would be an 18th tie at 24 after the two teams traded points before a McKyla Brooks kill gave the Seawolves (9-14, 4-2 A. East) the lead and a SHU error ended the match.
Recording a season-low 11 team errors, the Pioneers could not quite match the .384 hitting performance by SBU. Kathy Fletcher led the Seawolves with 14 kills, while Stephanie McFadden completed the match error free with 14 kills and a .737 hitting percentage. Nicole Vogel led the match with 43 assists, while Taylor Wilson contributed a match-high 8 digs.
Krufka's 15 kills matched a season best for a three set match, while her .500-hitting percentage was her third highest of the year. Coming off of a season-high seven kills on Sunday,
Allison Riggs had another efficient match with six kills on .714 hitting.
Kiki Robinson led the Pioneers in both assists and digs, with 19 and 7 respectively.
The Pioneers will compete in their final non-conference match of the season on Friday, when they travel across town to take on Fairfield at 7 pm.
Noteworthy
- The loss is Sacred Heart's fourth to Stony Brook in the last three seasons.
- Riggs has now hit at least .500 in three of the previous four matches.

How it Happened
- The two teams were tied 14 times in the opening set, with neither gaining larger than a two-point advantage until the Seawolves ended the set with the final six points. After a Krufka kill pulled the Pioneers within one, 19-18, SBU took advantage of three SHU errors to go along with three kills.
- Sacred Heart led by as much as three early, 7-4, but Stony Brook erased the deficit and took a three point lead of their own with a seven of the next eight points to make it 11-8. The Pioneers would use a 4-1 run to even the score at 14, but SBU would take control from there with six straight points, which included a SHU serving error, bad set, and attack error.
