MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team opened strong with three goals in the first period and cruised past the Canisius Golden Griffins 4-0 at the Milford Ice Pavilion Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey Conference action.

Sacred Heart (3-2-1, 2-1-0 AHC) opened the scoring in the first period as Justin Danforth found the empty net off the rebound of a David Iacono shot with 10:19 remaining.  Evan Jasper received an assist along with Iacono. With 1:26 remaining, the Pioneers made it a 2-0 lead over Canisius (2-4-0, 2-2-0 AHC) when Jacob Brightbill took the puck from behind the net and stuffed it by Golden Griffins' goalie Reilly Turner.

In the second period, Sacred Heart increased the lead to 4-0 as Zach De Concilys won a scrum in the crease and beat new Canisius netminder Simon Hofley 1:40 into the period, with assists from Jasper and Danforth. The two teams played a scoreless third period, with Brett Magnus making nine saves to wrap up his second career shutout.
