FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Needing a win to stay in the race for the Northeast Conference championship, the Sacred Heart (4-4, 1-2 NEC) football team hosts the Duquesne Dukes (6-3, 3-1 NEC) at Campus Field Saturday at 12 p.m.
On Saturday, Sacred Heart will honor head football coach Mark Nofri and his battle against colon cancer with the #NofTacklesCancer Game. Coach Nofri was diagnosed last spring and has undergone successful treatment and is cancer free today. SHU and the Colon Cancer Alliance have partnered to bring awareness of colon cancer this season and Saturday's game is the culmination of that effort. The Pioneers look to snap their second two-game losing streak of the season Saturday against the Dukes. Last week, Sacred Heart lost 23-14 at Saint Francis U as the Red Flash rallied in the second half for the win. Quarterback RJ Noel threw for a season-high 294 yards last week and had two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Moses Webb had six receptions for 107 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown reception.
Duquesne leads the all-time series with Sacred Heart 6-4, but the Pioneers have won the last two meetings. The Dukes enter Saturday's game at 6-3 and 3-1 in the NEC after a 35-17 win over Wagner last week. Running Back Rafiq Douglas ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Douglas is second in the NEC in rushing with 81.1 yards per game. The Dukes have the top scoring defense in the NEC, allowing 16.1 points per game.
