
SHU Softball Announces 2016 Schedule

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 10, 2015)-–Sacred Heart Softball Co-Head Coaches Elizabeth Luckie and Pam London announced the 2016 schedule on Thursday. This season, the Pioneers will play at home at Pioneer Park nine times, beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30 against UMass-Lowell.
Sacred Heart will open the season Friday, February 26 at Florida Gulf Coast University as they play in the Battle at The Beach Tournament. They will play Oakland and FGCU in back-to-back games both Friday and Saturday, and finish with a single game against FGCU on the 28. The next week the Pioneers will remain in Florida as they play annually in the Rebel Spring Games over Spring Break
Starting March 11, the Pioneers will play four games in Lynchburg, Va. at the Liberty University Tournament. Sacred Heart will play hode Island, Norfolk State, Liberty and LaSalle. The next weekend, SHU continues tournament play as they compete in the UMBC tournament in Baltimore, Md. They will play four games there and take on Siena, LaSalle and finish with UMBC. Before returning home, the Pioneers will play doubleheaders in Boston and New York against Boston University and Manhattan on March 24 and 26 respectively.
Sacred Heart will defend Pioneer Park for the first time in the 2016 season on Wednesday, March 30, as they host UMASS- Lowell for a doubleheader.
The Pioneers open Northeast Conference play on Saturday, April 2 at home, as they host Bryant in a doubleheader. Sacred Heart ends the six-game home stand with a doubleheader against Iona on Wednesday, April 6, before traveling to play crosstown rival Fairfield in a single game on the 7. The Pioneers remain on the road from there as they travel to play a doubleheaders against Mount St. Mary's on April 10, and at Stony Brook on the 13.
Sacred Heart returns home for their longest stretch of the season on April 14, as they will host Quinnipiac in a single game before taking on conference foes Saint Francis U and Robert Morris in doubleheaders the following weekend. SHU closes out the home stand against two more Connecticut schools, facing Yale in two games on April 20 and Fairfield for one on the 21.
From there, the Pioneers will travel to Staten Island and play an NEC doubleheader against the Wagner Seahawks on April 23. On April 24, Sacred Heart hosts Fairleigh Dickinson on Senior Day for the final home games of the season, before hitting the road to wrap up regular season against Siena, LIU Brooklyn, defending Northeast Conference Champions Central Connecticut State and Quinnipiac.
