Saturday, December 2, 2015 - 2:00 pm - SECU Arena (5,200) - Towson, Md.
The Sacred Heart men's basketball ends its Division I record six game road trip at Towson at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon, in what will be the two school's first ever meeting as Division I opponents.
Last Time Out…Sacred Heart held an 11-point first half lead in an 82-49 loss at Connecticut on Wednesday night at the XL Center. Jordan Allen led the Pioneers, who fell to 1-5, with 18 points, one shy of a game-high.
Series History... Sacred Heart and Towson's only ever meeting came in the 1977 Division II Elite Eight in New Haven, Conn. The 85-82 victory propelled the Pioneers to their first ever Division II Final Four, where they would go on to drop a 95-81 decision to Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Scouting Towson... After losing three of its first four, Towson is currently on a four-game win streak after most recently defeating George Mason, 75-54, on Wednesday to improve to 5-3. Its three losses came by two points to La Salle in the season opener and to power five opponents Oklahoma State and Ole Miss. The only two statistics the Tigers rank inside the top two of the Colonial Athletic Association are their + 7.8 rebounding margin and +1.4 turnover margin. They are also in the top half of the league, holding opponents to 65.0 points on 41.2 percent shooting. Four Tigers score average double figures points, led by Byron Hawkins' 16.1 points on a team-leading 2.6 made three pointers per game. Hawkins also leads the team averaging 2.6 assists and 33.1 minutes per game. William Adala Moto is second on the team with averages of 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds, while Timajh Parker-Rivera is atop the team with an average of 6.8 rebounds and is second in the CAA, blocking 1.8 shots per game.
A First in Maryland... In its 51st season, this will be Sacred Heart's second ever non-conference game in the state of Maryland, and first as a Division I program. The Pioneers last played a non-conference game in the state at Johns Hopkins on December 2, 1970.
-Aside from conference foe Mount St. Mary's, the Pioneers have played just three of the other eighth Division I program in the state of Maryland in Loyola, Towson and UMBC. The games against Loyola and Towson both came in the Division II era, while the meetings with UMBC were either Division II or when the Retriever's were in the NEC.
-SHU has never played Coppin State, Maryland, UMES, Morgan State, or Navy.
All-time vs. CAA... Although Sacred Heart has played four teams (Drexel, Hofstra, James Madison, and Northeastern) currently in the Colonial Athletic Association, just two of those games were played when the opponent was a current member at the time. The Pioneers defeated Hofstra in 2013 and were beaten by James Madison in November of last year.
Pioneer Points...
- Cane Broome leads the NEC, and ranks 29th in the NCAA, scoring an average of 20.5 points per game.
- Coming off a team and season-high 18 points at UConn on Wednesday, Jordan Allen is currently third on the team and 14th in the NEC with an average of 12.7 points per game.
