Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's soccer team played Stony Brook to a scoreless, double overtime draw Monday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The Pioneers had six shots on goal for the match, as Tucker Hackett (Madison, Conn.) made five saves for his first clean sheet of the season.
Sacred Heart (0-1-1) had the first two shots on goal in the game. Giancarlo Maurello (Rego Park, N.Y.) had both of them, in the fourth and 24th minute respectively. The Pioneers held Stony Brook (1-0-1) without a shot on goal until the 34th minute and to only two shots on goal for the half. Andy Hall (Gateshead, England) had two shots on goal in the second half, as well as putting one over the crossbar in the 71st minute. Hackett did his part to keep the game goalless with two saves in the final five minutes of regulation. Both teams had three shots in extra time but none on goal.
The Pioneers are back in action at Campus Field on Friday, September 4 against Yale at 7 p.m.
FIRST HALF
- Giancarlo Maurello put a shot on goal in the fourth minute that was saved by Stony Brook goalkeeper Jason Orban. He also had one saved in the 24th minute.
- The Seawolves' first shot on goal came in the 34th minute, when Vince Erdei's header was stopped by Tucker Hackett. Erdei had another shot stopped by Hackett one minute later.
- Mahmoud Kafel ripped a shot from distance in the 37th minute that Orban punched away
- Dylan Santos flicked a header over the goal in the 43rd minute
SECOND HALF
- Hackett stopped a shot from Stony Brook's Danny Espinoza in the 48th minute.
- Freshman Andy Hall ripped a shot in the 53rd minute that went off Orban's fingertips, leading to a corner kick. Hall added another shot on goal in the 61st minute.
- Hall put a shot over the crossbar from inside the 18-yard box in the 71st minute.
- Hackett kept the game scoreless in the 85th minute, making a save on a Thibault Duval shot. He also stopped a close range header from Martin Giordano in the 88th minute.
EXTRA TIME
- Both teams had three shots in overtime, but none were on goal.
