Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. – Following her third consecutive match of at least 15 kills, Sarah Krufka was named the All-Tournament Team of the Art Carmichael Invitational after Sacred Heart's four set loss to host Rhode Island on Saturday. The loss meant the Pioneers finished the two-day tournament 1-2 to drop their record to 3-5 to open the season, while the Rams have stared 6-3.
With her match-high 19 kills on Saturday, Krufka accumulated 50 over the three matches of the tournament while hitting .400. She now has at least 13 kills in seven of the SHU's eight matches.
Sacred Heart will participate in one final tournament next weekend. The Pioneers travel to the University of Delaware for matchups with Loyola (Md.) and Morgan State on Friday before meeting the host on Saturday.
Inside the Numbers
- The Rams hit a stifling .412 over the course of the match, including .576 in an errorless first set. They did not finish a set with a hitting percentage below .300.
- URI also had an advantage defensively at the net as it finished with 13 blocks to Sacred Heart's 2.
- Sacred Heart hit .238 and finished with ten more errors than the Rams, 22-12, including eight in the clinching fourth set.

How It Happened
- As mentioned, the hosts hit a blistering .576 in the first set, but it was the Pioneers who jumped out to a 5-2 while also leading 10-8 at one point. URI scored five of the next six points and never relinquished the lead from there, with SHU only managing to get within one once at 13-12.
- Trading points early, the Rams took the first three-point lead of the set at 13-10. Sacred Heart cut the deficit to 14-13 following two consecutive errors, but could never manage to tie the set.
- Behind the serving of Katie Direnzo, who had two aces in the stretch, SHU scored five unanswered to take a 12-5 lead. Trailing 14-8, URI stormed back with six of the next seven of the next eight points to tie it at 15. With things evened back up at 17, they then scored four in a row to go ahead four. SHU responded with a 7-2 run, which included three Ram errors, for a set point at 24-23. The Rams held off a set point, and even forced two of their own, but the Pioneers sent the match to the fourth set with four of the final five points, which included kills for Kemper, Bon, and Direnzo.
- Tied 11-11, the matched turned with Rhode Island scoring four in a row to spark and 8-2 run, ultimately sealing the match.
