FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off its longest road trip in program history, the Sacred Heart football team travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Saturday to take on Marist under the lights at 6 p.m.
Last week, the Pioneers travelled over 800 miles to Valparaiso, Ind. to take on the Valparaiso Crusaders in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Sacred Heart scored on five of its first six possessions en route to a 56-3 win. It was the Pioneers' largest margin of victory since Nov. 10, 2001 when Sacred Heart shut out Saint Francis U 54-0.
Ose Imeokparia was named NEC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after rushing for a career-high 119 yards and three touchdowns. RJ Noel was 22-of-34 passing for 272 yards and a touchdown. He also threw his 400th career completion and passed 5,000 career passing yards last week. Tyler Dube caught a pass in his 31st straight game and had a touchdown for the 13th time in his last 15 games. Defensively, Kevin Barry had seven tackles, two sacks, and an interception. Defensive Lineman Connor Caveney picked off Crusaders quarterbacks twice.
Sacred Heart leads the all-time series with Marist 5-2, having won the last two meetings. Last season, the Pioneers defeated the Red Foxes 28-7 in the season opener at Campus Field. Dube had 10 receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns in that victory. Marist is 0-2 on the season after a 34-7 loss at Georgetown last week. The Red Foxes had 263 yards of total offense against the Hoyas but turned the ball over three times.
