Women's Rugby Wins Inaugural Game Over Molloy 52-35

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (September 5, 2015)—Sacred Heart women's rugby won its inaugural match 52-35 over Molloy College Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Lions got on the board first with back-to-back tries before the Pioneers came back to score two of their own evening the game at 14. Molloy scored two more tries before the half taking a 28-19 lead before halftime.
SHU held Molloy to just one try in the latter half, while going on to score 33 second-half points to clinch the program's first win.
The Pioneers host defending National Champions Notre Dame College Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11:00 a.m. in their home-opener on Campus Field.
First Half:
- Rachel Mazza began the game with a run over 20
- Molloy opened scoring with back-to-back tries
- SHU evened the score with consecutive tries of its own
- On a breakaway, Charlotte Tallman scored the Pioneers' second try
- Molloy went into halftime with a 28-19 lead after Sacred Heart picked up a try right before the break
Second Half:
- The Pioneers opened a dominant second half with an impressive 40-yard run by Colleen Semenick with a good conversion kick from Lauryn Kostopoulos cutting the lead 28-26
- Another ROT by Semenick for a try with a good conversion gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game, 33-28
- Tallman added another six points for SHU with a 35-yard run for the try before Molloy earned its first try of the half
- Sacred Heart added on two more tries before the end of the game
