Pioneers Fall At Binghamton 38-4

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Sacred Heart wrestling team traveled to Binghamton on Sunday to face the Binghamton Bearcats. The Pioneers finished the day losing the dual match 38-4.
Sacred Heart struggled throughout the day as the Bearcats won nine out of the ten matches. Gerard Daly gave the Pioneers their only win of the day in the 125-pound class. Daly started off in a close battle against Steven Bulzomi in the first period going up 4-3. Daly took control in the second period by a getting a takedown on Bulzomi, then a four point near fall. The freshman was able to seal the deal in the third period taking down Bulzomi two more time and getting the win 14-4 by major decision. The Pioneers started off with a 4-0 lead.
The Bearcats then proceeded to win the next nine matches. Sacred Heart struggled to get anything going as they trailed through all the matches. Three of them resulted in major decisions, two in pins, three in decisions, and one by technical fall.
The closest match of the day came in the last one between Duke Sherwood and Connor Calkins in the heavyweight bout. Calkins defeated Sherwood 3-2 by decision to get the win and the final victory for Bearcats.
The Pioneers will head on the road next week to Philadelphia to face the Drexel University Dragons at 7:00pm.
