
Sacred Heart Downs Army 4-1, Extends Unbeaten Streak To Four Games

MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team continued it's hot streak with a 4-1 win over the Army West Point Black Knights Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The Pioneers are now unbeaten in their last four games.
The game then settled into a defensive struggle. Neither team was able to score in the second period and the score remained the same in the third period until Justin Danforth put away an empty-netter with five seconds remaining to seal the 4-1 victory.
For the game, Sacred Heart was 0-for-4 on the power play and Army was 0-for-3. Army outshot Sacred Heart 31-28. Magnus made 30 saves and allowed just two goals on the weekend. Jasper had three points and Clare had his first career multi-point game with a goal and an assist.
Sacred Heart returns to the ice next Friday night, January 15 at Mercyhurst. Faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. at Mercyhurst Ice Center.
FIRST PERIOD
- Sacred Heart outshot Army 16-8 in the period.
- Clare's goal was his first career goal.
- Sacred Heart scored three goals in a period for the fourth time this season.
SECOND PERIOD
- With 1:17 left, Magnus preserved the two-goal lead with a strong stick save.
- Sacred Heart was 0-for-3 on the power play in the period. Army was 0-for-1.
- Magnus had 10 saves in the period.
THIRD PERIOD
- Danforth's goal was his team-leading ninth of the season.
- Magnus had 13 saves in the period.
