MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's hockey team continued it's hot streak with a 4-1 win over the Army West Point Black Knights Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion. The Pioneers are now unbeaten in their last four games.

After the two teams played a cautious first 10 minutes in the opening period, a scoring barrage ensued. Army (5-10-5, 3-8-5 AHC) scored first with 9:02 remaining when Taylor Maruya took a loose puck in from of the net and beat Pioneer goalie Brett Magnus for a 1-0 lead. Sacred Heart (8-10-3, 7-7-2 AHC) answered back with 5:19 remaining as Jordan Minello took advantage of a scrum in front of the net and was able to tuck the puck behind Army's Parker Gahagen to tie the game 1-1. Sacred Heart took the lead just 38 seconds later when Evan Jasper flipped a wrist shot from the left circle past Gahagen. Liam Clare added the Pioneers' third goal after he found the net when a loose puck came free from a huge pileup in Army's crease, his first career tally.

The game then settled into a defensive struggle. Neither team was able to score in the second period and the score remained the same in the third period until Justin Danforth put away an empty-netter with five seconds remaining to seal the 4-1 victory.

For the game, Sacred Heart was 0-for-4 on the power play and Army was 0-for-3. Army outshot Sacred Heart 31-28. Magnus made 30 saves and allowed just two goals on the weekend. Jasper had three points and Clare had his first career multi-point game with a goal and an assist.

Sacred Heart returns to the ice next Friday night, January 15 at Mercyhurst. Faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. at Mercyhurst Ice Center.

FIRST PERIOD
