
Four Pioneers Recognized In NEC End Of Season Awards

FAIRFIELD, CONN. – The Northeast Conference announced the 2016 end of the season awards Friday night at the NEC banquet. The Pioneers held the majority of the awards this year after a stellar regular season record of 13-1. Senior Sarah Krufka was named the NEC Player of the Year for the second time after receiving the same honor last season. Senior Ana Gonzalez also received an individual honor after being named the NEC Libero of the Year. Joining Sarah Krufka, and Ana Gonzalez on the first team All-Conference is sophomore Makayla Dole. This is Makaylas first time being named to the NEC All-Conference Team. To wrap up the awards Senior Allison Riggs was named to the NEC All-Conference second team.
SARAH KRUFKA (Northeast Conference Player Of The Year)-Senior Sarah Krufka has played a huge role in the success of the Pioneers in her four seasons with the team. Sarah was named the NEC Rookie of the Week in 2013, named 2015 NEC Player of the Year, and now for the second time is named the 2016 NEC Player of the Year. Sarah leads the NEC in kills this season with 381 kills, and is currently 15th in the NCAA with career kills with 1,517.
ANA GONZALEZ (Northeast Conference Libero Of The Year)-Senior Ana Gonzalez has been the starting libero for all four seasons with the Pioneers. This is Ana's first time being named the Libero of the Year and being named first team All Conference. Ana has added 377 digs this season for the Pioneers. Most impressively she has tallied 43 service aces this season, adding to her career number of 167 aces. Ana currently is 5th in the NCAA for Career Service Aces.
MAKAYLA DOLE (First Team All-Conference)-Sophomore Makayla Dole has had an outstanding year after her red shirt season last year. Makayla is second in the NEC in kills this season with 356 kills. Makayla has been well rounded on the court registering 22 service aces, 256 digs, and 36 total blocks this season.
ALLISON RIGSS (Second Team All-Conference)-Senior Allison Riggs rounds up the list of Pioneers being named second team All-Conference for the first time in her career. Allison has been a key component to the Pioneers success this season posting 163 kills, 12 service aces, and 68 total blocks.
