
Pioneers Drop First Game In Las Vegas To Northern Colorado

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Sacred Heart men's basketball team lost its third consecutive game Thursday, falling 81-54 to the Northern Colorado Bears at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena.
Quincy McKnight led SHU with 11 points, adding three rebounds and two blocks. Matej Buovac made three three-pointers for nine points. Mario Matasovic scored eight points off the bench with a team-high six rebounds and three blocks. SHU shot 35.1% from the field for the game, but just 22.2% in the second half.
Sacred Heart (1-4) took an early 10-7 lead at the 15:32 mark of the first after back-to-back baskets by McKnight and Charles Tucker Jr. With the game tied 12-12, SHU went on a 13-3 run over a span of 4:30 to take a 27-15 lead. Buovac made all three of his triples during that spurt. Northern Colorado came back, tying the game 30-30 on a DJ Miles layup with 3:24 to play in the half. The Bears led by as much as five before a Chris Robinson three and a Matasovic free throw made the halftime score 37-36.
Northern Colorado (2-3) caught fire to start the second half. The Bears went on an 11-2 run to open the half, taking a 48-38 lead. The Northern Colorado advantage grew to 19, 57-38, at the 11:27 mark after six straight points by Jordan Davis. The Bears led by as much as 29 in the half as SHU was held to 6-of-27 from the field and 1-of-7 from the three-point line.
The Bears shot 50% from the field for the game and outrebounded SHU 45-31. Davis led all players with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Miles made five threes and had 17 points. Jonah Radebaugh added 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Pioneers take on Norfolk State tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in their final game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational.
