Box Score FAIRFIELD, CONN- The Sacred Heart women's volleyball team improves to 11-1 after defeating the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson in three straight sets. This win gives the Pioneers the regular season championship with two games left to play before the tournament.
SET 1- The Pioneers wasted no time I the first set after jumping to a 10-3 lead. The fourth point for Sacred Heart was a special one for Senior Ana Gonzalez as she picked up her 158th service ace of her career making her SHU's Career Record Holder for most Service Aces. Gonzalez posted an additional two service aces in this set to help the Pioneers win 25-9.
SET 2- The Knights managed to make the second set a battle as they were tied 10-10. Senior Sarah Krufka who hit .565% on the day added 4 kills in the second set to help the Pioneers advance ahead. Freshman stand out Liisel Nelis continued to shine as she added two aces in the set to win 25-13.
SET 3- To end the night the Pioneers were in a battle as the set was 7-12 in favor of SHU. Freshman Julia Murawinski was a force at the net as she posted 4 block assists to keep the Pioneers ahead. The Pioneers hit an impressive .406 and ended the third set 24-12.
The Pioneers hit the road tomorrow as they take on UMass Lowell at 3:00pm.
