
Krufka Leads The Pioneers To A 3-1 Win Over UMass Lowell

The Sacred Heart Women's Volleyball team hit the road today to take on UMass Lowell in a non-conference battle. The River Cats kept the match close in all four sets keeping the Pioneers on their toes. The Pioneers are now 19-7 overall moving into their last weekend of regular season play.
SET 1- The opening set was a close match as the River Cats took a four point lead 14-10 before the Pioneers went on a 5 point run where they took the lead. Senior Sarah Krufka continued to lead the team as she posted four kills in the opening set and ended with 18 kills in the match. The Pioneers closed out the first set on top winning 25-22.
SET 2- Although SHU took the first set, UMass Lowell wasn't going to go down without a fight. The River Cats took a 5 point lead, 21-16. The Pioneers clawed back within two points thanks to the setting of Cassandra Lew who finished the night with 27 assists, paired with Lea Lieb who had 17 assists. The late rally wasn't enough as the Pioneers dropped the set 25-21.
SET 3- The Pioneers jumped to an early lead in the third set, after back to back kills from freshman stand out Liisel Nelis. Sarah Krufka tallied 9 kills in the third set, which kept the Pioneers on top for the third set winning 25-23.
SET 4- The last set of the match came right down to the wire. Senior Maddie Losure posted a block assist and few kills to keep the Pioneers ahead for the match. The Pioneers were tied 22-22 before Krufka sealed the deal with a kill to end the match 25-23.
The Pioneers are back home on Saturday November 12th as they take on Bryant at 2:00pm. They also will be taking on Central Connecticut State Sunday at 4:00pm, to close out the regular season, and honor our seniors.
