
Sarah Krufka Player of The Week/Liisel Nelis Rookie of The Week

The Women's Volleyball team has been on a tear in the NEC this year collecting an 11-1 record. Senior Sarah Krufka was named NEC Player of the Week for the second time this year after having a big weekend. Freshman Liisel Nelis was also picked as the Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after posting big numbers against FDU, and UMass Lowell. The SHU volleyball team takes the court this weekend as they battle Bryant on Saturday at 2:00pm in the Pitt Center. We will also be noticing out seniors on Sunday at 4:00pm as they take on CCSU for the final match of the year in Regular season play.
Sarah Krufka, Sacred Heart
Krukfa earned her second Molten/NEC Player of the Week award of the season after leading first place Sacred Heart to a 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. Krufka hit .565 against the Knights on 15 kills over the three-set match. She added 19 kills in a 3-1 triumph over UMass Lowell on Sunday and now ranks 14th among active players in the NCAA with 1,486 career kills. The senior averaged 4.71 kills per set and hit .419 for the weekend. Krufka leads the NEC with 3.80 kills per set and has posted double-digit kills in 13 conference matches this season.
MOLTEN/NEC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lisel Nelis, Sacred Heart
Fr., OH, Kuressaare, Estonia
Nelis earned her second-straight Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week Award and third overall after helping the Pioneers to a weekend sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson and UMass Lowell. She recorded eight kills on Saturday against the Knights and hit .438 in a win that improved the first place Pioneers to 11-1 in league play on the year. She posted three service aces, nine digs and three block assists. In a 3-1 win over UMass Lowell, Nelis tallied eight kills, 14 digs and two solo blocks. The freshman from Kuressaare, Estonia ranks second in conference play with 0.52 service aces per game.
