Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart opens a three-game homestand Saturday afternoon against the Hartford Hawks.
Last Time Out... SHU won its second straight game Wednesday night, rallying from an 11-point deficit in the final 6:14 to win 71-70 at Fordham. The Pioneers closed the game on a 16-4 run. De'von Barnett scored SHU's final seven points, including the game-winning layup with 2.7 seconds left. He finished the game with 11 points. Joseph Lopez led SHU with 19 points and 10 rebounds, going 7-for-7 from the floor. Sean Hoehn added 17 points and six rebounds. The Pioneers shot 61.1% from the field for the game.
All-Time vs. Hartford... The Pioneers lead the series with the Hawks 13-9. Hartford has won three of the last four meetings.
Last Meeting... Hartford jumped out to a 16-point halftime lead on its way to an 80-71 win at Chase Arena on Dec. 14, 2015. Pancake Thomas led the Hawks, and all players, with 17 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Justin Graham added 13 points for Hartford. Cane Broome and Jordan Allen each scored 15 points to lead SHU. The Pioneers outrebounded Hartford 39-33, but committed 19 turnovers that led to 25 Hawks points.
Boards by Joe... Joseph Lopez is averaging a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game, fifth-most in the Northeast Conference. Lopez has pulled down at least seven boards in five games this season. He had his first double-double of the season Wednesday night with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the Pioneers' win at Fordham. It was his second double-digit rebound game of the season. Lopez had 14 rebounds in the season-opener at Fairfield.
Barnett Brings SHU Back... Forward De'von Barnett scored SHU's final seven points in the 71-70 win at Fordham Wednesday night. He finished the game with 11 points and a career-high four assists. It was his third double-figure scoring effort of the season. In his first seven games this season, Barnett is averaging 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Sharing the Basketball... After having just eight assists in the season opener, SHU is averaging 14.83 assists per game over the last six. The Pioneers hada season-high 19 assists last Wednesday at Fordham on 22 made field goals.
Cha-Cha Dimes... Junior guard Charles Tucker Jr. had a season-high eight assists Wednesday night at Fordham. He was also 7-for-8 at the foul line.
Scouting the Hawks... Picked eighth in the America East preseason poll, Hartford enters Saturday's contest at 1-7 after a 75-68 home loss to LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday. Hartford trailed 45-23 at the half, then shot 57.1% in the second half to close the gap to seven. Jason Dunne led the Hawks with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Ross added 13 points and five boards. Ross leads Hartford in scoring at 22.1 points per game. Dunne is second at 13.8 points per game and leads with 5.8 rebounds per game.
