DELAND, FL (March 8, 2016)—The Sacred Heart softball team clinched an eight-inning 4-3 victory over Stetson Tuesday in the first game of the doubleheader, but the Pioneers couldn't keep the momentum going and were shutout 10-0 in the second game of the day. Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) went 4-6 at the plate with a double through two games, while Kristin McCann (Phoenix, Ariz.) came in in relief to earn her first collegiate win in game one.
In game one, Courtney Machamer (Williamstown, Pa.) hit a pinch hit three-run homerun in the top half of the fifth inning for the Pioneers. Starter Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) pitched 6.2 innings scattered six hits and three runs despite giving up nine walks, before freshman pitcher McCann came in and pitched 1.1 of relief to pick up the win 4-3.
Game two was less memorable for the Pioneers as they were unable to get anything going offensively and fell in a shortened game 10-0. Stetson was able to put up four runs in the second followed by six in the third.
The Pioneers are back at it again tomorrow as they are back participating in the Rebel Games tournament in Kissimmee. Game one against Hampton is set for 1:30 PM followed by a game with Drexel at 6:00 PM.

- In the top of the fifth, Fillmore led off the inning with a single to center. One out later, Nicole Deissler (Commack, N.Y.) singled to the same spot putting two runners on for Machamer as the senior came off the bench to pinch-hit. One swing was all it took to give SHU the lead as Machamer sent the ball soaring over the left field fence for three runs
