Pioneers Use 46-pt Second Half to Down Molloy

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (April 3, 2016)—The Sacred Heart women's rugby team used a 46-point run in the second half to complete the season sweep of Molloy 63-29 Sunday afternoon on Campus Field. Senior Colleen Semenick led the Pioneers with four tries, and Emily Mignogni accounted for 16 of SHU's points with two tries and three good conversions.

Sacred Heart continues 7's play next weekend at a tournament hosted by Brown University.

First Half:

Both teams struggled to get their offenses going early in the game before Sacred Heart got on the board with a try from Kaitlyn McNicholas nearly seven minutes into the game
Molloy evened it up with 18 minutes on the clock as Caroline Nickels found the try zone
But the Pioneers were quick to retake the lead less than two minutes later as Sunny Ravert barreled into the try zone
Just inside the 14-minute mark, Emily Mignogni seemingly had an open field as she cruised over 40 yards towards the try zone, but was brought down just shy of scoring
Back-to-back tried for the Lions and one good conversion, had Molloy up 17-10 eight minutes before the halftime break
Sacred Heart came back to knot the game at 17 as Semenick sprinted for the middle of the try zone setting Mignogni up for a good conversion kick

Second Half:

The Lions started off the second half red hot with two consecutive tries taking a 29-17 lead with 26 minutes left in regulation, but Mignogni got the Pioneer offense going again answering with her first try of the game. As the sophomore nailed the conversion, she brought SHU within five points of catching Molloy
Semenick ran in the following kick off for a try evening the game at 29, before another good conversion from Mignogni gave SHU a lead it would never look back from
The Pioneers held Molloy scoreless through the final 26 minutes of the game as they went on to total 46 points in the second half
