Box Score NEW HAVEN, CONN. (September 18, 2016)—After a tough first half that saw neither team score, the Sacred Heart field hockey team fell to Dartmouth 3-0 Sunday morning at Johnson Field. Nichole Tolli (Poughquag, N.Y.) accounted for half of the Pioneers' six shots, as the team falls to 0-7 on the season.
The Pioneers return to action next Sunday, September 25 when they host Temple at 3:30 p.m. on Johnson Field.
First Half:
- The teams exchanged possession of the ball in the opening minutes with neither being able to get off a shot until Kelsy Hopkins (Ambler, Pa.) sent one wide in the seventh minute
- Dartmouth got its first big offensive opportunity with three consecutive corners. On the first, Morgan Philie had her shot blocked, and on the third, Emily Degennaro (Wading Valley, N.Y.) made a beautiful save as Joanne Nazareth put a hard shot on goal
- As the first half went on, the Big Green outshot the Pioneers 8-3, but Degennaro stopped all three Dartmouth put on goal
Second Half:
- Dartmouth controlled the game at the get-go of the second half getting four penalty corners in the first 10 minutes. In the game's 49th minute, the Big Green finally capitalized on one as Philie converted the fourth of the period for a goal
- The Big Green earned another of its seven second-half corners in the 53rd minute. Philie took the shot off the corner, but watched it get blocked in front of the net. Carmen Braceras fielded the rebound and nudged it to Evie Bird directly in front of the goal. Bird managed to get it past Degenarro for her first goal of the season
- Dartmouth wasted no time further expanding its lead. Seven minutes after getting an assist, Braceras lobbed the ball over Degenarro's head for the third and final goal of the game
