Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Led by two goals from sophomore Alex Mesropyan (Mahwah, N.J.), Sacred Heart defeated Delaware State 2-0 to close out non-conference play on Saturday.
The Pioneers (3-4-3) featured an all-around game against the Hornets (2-7), as their defense held the opposition to just three shots all game. The Pioneers offense played aggressive, tallying seven shots in both halves. Senior Emily Dawidczyk and Sophomore Alyssa Highland led with four and three shots off the bench for Sacred Heart. Mesropyan netted her first goal of the season in the 44th minute, nailing a header from five yards out on a cross from fellow sophomore Melanie DaSilva (Bristol, R.I.). Mesropyan next tally came in the 70th minute with as she stole the clear attempt from a Hornets defender and booted the ball from 15 yards out to set the final score at 2-0.
Sacred Heart will begin Northeast Conference action on Sunday October 2 against Robert Morris, Kickoff is Schedule for 12:00pm.

- Dawidczyk nearly finds the net as shot from 12 yards hits the crossbar in the 68th minute.
- Mesropyan answered again in the 70th minute stealing a Delaware State clear attempt herself and nails goal from 15 yards out.
