
Women's Rugby Falls to Molloy College in First Match of Sophomore Season

FAIRFIELD, C.T. (September 3, 2016) - Sacred Heart women's rugby lost the first game of it's sophomore season, falling 45-22 to Molloy College on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The Lions got an early lead, scoring 12 points in the beginning of the first half. The Pioneers would score their first and only try and the half with 10:46 left. The Lions would score once more, ending the half with a score of 19-5 Lions.
Molloy would score again with 37:56 in the second half, with SHU answering with two back-back-tries and a successful conversion kick, bringing the score within reach at 24 to 17 with 24:39 left in the game.
Molloy eventually increased their lead by 21 points. The Pioneers would manage to get one more try in the finals minutes of the game, finishing that match at 45-22.
The Pioneers will head to Vermont to take on a Castleton on September 10 at 3:00 PM.
First Half:
- Molloy opened scoring with back-to-back tries
- Margaret Woods would score Sacred Heart's first try of the game
- Molloy scored a third try, ending the half with a 19-5 lead
Second Half:
- Molloy opened scoring for the second half with a try at 37:56
- Allie Rinaldi would score a hard-fought second try for the Pioneers at 32:54
- On a big run, Charlotte Tallman scored the Pioneers third try
- Molloy scores three tries in a row, increasing their lead by 21 points
- Sacred Heart scored their last try in the final minutes of the game, with a final scored of 45-22
