RICHMOND, Va.—The Sacred Heart women's soccer team dropped the final game of the VCU Invitational to Richmond, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Spiders (4-1) used their offensive attack early to stay ahead of the Pioneers (1-3-2).

Much of the first half featured a standstill between both teams before Richmond broke it open on Meaghan Carrigan's penalty kick goal in the 37^th minute. The Spiders quickly followed that up with a goal by Bailey Cristian on the assist by Keaira Clark and Emily Drummond only a minute later to go up 2-0 right before the half.

The Pioneers came out of the half quickly, getting a goal in the 46^th minute by sophomore Melanie DaSilva (Bristol, R.I), her second of the year. She scored off freshman Olivia Crema's (Litchfield, N.H.) pass on the corner kick. Now down 2-1, Sacred Heart would continue to push the attack for much of the second half. But Richmond would strike again on a goal by Brooke Beam, assisted by Olivia Aha. The 3-1 lead would seal the game for the Spiders.

Sophomore midfielder Alex Mesropyan and freshman defender Rhone O'Hara both were selected to the VCU Invitational All-Tournament team for their performances this weekend.

Sacred Heart's next match will be on Friday September 9 at Saint Peter's, kickoff is set for 3:00pm.

First Half

- Krissy Rimmel shot is saved by Katie Brennan at the 70^th minute.

- Beam nails the final goal for Richmond in the 76^th minute, she was assisted by Aha.

- Mesorpyan has Sacred Heart's final try on goal in the 81^st minute. Her shot saved by Brennan.
