Setting the Scene... Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, Sacred Heart hits the road to face first-place Mount St. Mary's Saturday afternoon.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers had two chances in the final 0:30 Thursday night to force overtime but LIU Brooklyn held on for a 60-57 win at the Pitt Center. Quincy McKnight led Sacred Heart with 16 points as Mario Matasovic scored a season-high 13 points off the bench. Joseph Lopez had 10 points and eight rebounds.
All-Time vs. Mount St. Mary's... The Mountaineers lead the all-time series with the Pioneers 23-10. The two teams have split the last six games. Sacred Heart has won two of its last three games at Mount St. Mary's.
Last Meeting... Mount St. Mary's jumped out to a 51-27 halftime lead on Jan. 19 at the Pitt Center. Sacred Heart opened the second half on a 26-5 run to cut the deficit to three, 56-53, with 12:05 to play. The Mountaineers extended its lead to 10 before taking the win 86-75. Quincy McKnight scored a game-high 26 points. Joseph Lopez had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Elijah Long led five Mountaineers in double figures with 19 points and seven assists. Miles Wilson and Junior Robinson each scored 17 points.
McKnight Leading The Way... Sophomore guard Quincy McKnight is second in the NEC in scoring at 19.5 points per game. He bounced back from his eight-point effort against Wagner on Jan. 21 with a team-high 16 points Thursday night against LIU Brooklyn. In three career games against Mount St. Mary's, McKnight is averaging 15.3 points per game while shooting 54.3% from the field. McKnight had his eighth 20-point game of the season on Jan. 19 against the Mountaineers, scoring a game-high 26 points.
Lopez In The Low Post... Joseph Lopez is third in the NEC in rebounding at 8.7 per game and sixth in field goal percentage at 58.3%. In NEC play, Lopez is averaging 13.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 58.1%. Lopez has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 12 games with five double-doubles since Dec. 29.
Super Game From Mario... Mario Matasovic came alive Thursday night against LIU Brooklyn, scoring a season-high 13 points with three three-pointers and six rebounds. He had scored a total of 15 points in the previous seven games. The redshirt-junior forward led SHU's reserves to 19 points Thursday night.
Scouting the Mountaineers... Mount St. Mary's kept its share of first place in the NEC Thursday night with a 48-47 win over Robert Morris. The Mountaineers rallied from a 35-25 deficit with 15:51 to go to take a 48-44 with 3:09 to play on an Elijah Long three-point play. Junior Robinson led all scorers with 18 points to lead Mount St. Mary's to its sixth straight win. Long leads the Mountaineers in scoring at 14 points per game.
